Jenny Lake Loop

As was the case last year, the Hidden Falls/Inspiration Point trail on the west side of Jenny Lake is closed for repairs. That also means that the Loop Trail around Jenny Lake cannot be made as a loop; hikers have to begin at the String Lake Trailhead and do an out-and-back on either the west or east side of the lake. We chose to hike the east side of the lake which gave us a view of the Teton peaks from across Jenny Lake. It was a beautiful clear day for this classic hike!

The trail began along the outlet stream between String and Jenny Lakes.

There was some lingering snow over the trail at the beginning. Nothing we couldn't handle!

After a 1/2 mile we burst out of the woods onto the shore of Jenny Lake.

Across the lake, three of the major Teton peaks know collectively as The Cathedral Group.

Lunch spot down by the lake.

Lunch view with a spectacular glimpse up Cascade Canyon.

Close-up view down Cascade Canyon. We think the bare rock in the foreground may be Inspiration Point - which is closed for renovations.

It got quite windy this afternoon so there was quite a chop on the lake. As we ate our lunch we could see this boat make its way across the lake. We think it is carrying supplies for the trail renovation work.

More lunch views.

We think the snow lines comes down farther this year than last year.

It was a beautiful, rolling 2 1/2-mile walk in-and-out of lodgepole forest back to the string Lake parking area.

Perfect hike - wonderful hiking companion, beautiful blue Jenny Lake and the magnificent Tetons!

Today's hike:
Length - 5.01 miles
Duration - 2 hours, 36 minutes (including lunch)
Elevation gain - 920 feet (101 stairs on the Fitbit)
