St. Regis, Montana

Post Script -
It turns out that Our Lady of theRockies is lit from within and was a white beacon on the mountain all last night. Very nice!

Another 200-miles driving day across western Montana.

The Stack, a well know landmark in western Montana, is along the highway just outside of Butte. It's the smokestack for the smelter of the Anaconda Copper Mining operation in Anaconda, MT. The smelter is long gone but the locals campaigned to have the stack remain as a landmark.

For the whole 200 miles there were periodic showers and clouds surrounding the hight mountain peaks. The temperature was around 60 degrees so, thank goodness, there was no snow!

We noticed that many of the herds of cattle that we saw along the road had calves, a sign of spring.

Despite the periodic sprinkles, the scenery was superb.

The North Fork of the Clark River that flowed alongside the interstate, was very full.

We went through several passes. This one had some interesting geology.

For part of the way we had the railroad to keep us company.
