Juniper Trail

We had a pleasant introductory day in Kootenay National Park.

It began this morning with a visit by two deer.

The one on the left looks as if it could benefit from additional oats and hay.

Our first stop was at the Visitor Center where we learned that half the trails in the park are still closed because of winter damage - washed out bridges, avalanche debris on the trail, snow, etc. We chose a trail close to town - Radium Hot Springs - near the southern entrance to the park. The first part was a hike down into Sinclair Canyon and a view of...

Sinclair Falls. We could barely see the falls but we could certainly hear the falls and...

the water rushing through the canyon.

We crossed the stream and began climbing on the other side up past the level of the road and then up & up. From an overlook, using the telephoto lens, we got a picture of the car below.

Lunch spot.

Lunch view across the Columbia Valley.

Jagged peaks across the valley.

On the road back to the campground we passed two big-horned sheep.

This one had the longer horns.

Today's hike:
Length - 3.47 miles
Duration - 2 hours, 7 minutes (including lunch)
Elevation gain - 892 feet
