Snow on Sulphur Mountain

When we got ready to hike up Sulphur Mountain, 3.5 miles straight up, we put on our winter jackets because it was 48º and we could see snow falling on mountain peaks all around us. We both got wet from perspiration on the hike up (from exertion) put we needed our winter jackets at the top where it was snowing, windy and cold - right about freezing. Since there was no place to get inside out of the weather because of on-going construction, we took a few pictures then headed right back down again.

Halfway up the mountain looking down of Banff and the Bow River which we have hiked along several times.

On top of the mountain looking down on Banff. That's Tunnel Mountain in the center and you can see the road going up Tunnel Mountain to our campground.

Banff Springs Hotel with Bow River Falls (see yesterday's blog) behind it.

Looking north, out of Banff. The mountain peaks are all wearing a fresh dusting of snow which makes them seem, tour eyes, even more breathtaking.

Looking the other direction from Banff, west, we could see the approaching snow - and it was cold!

Another look west, just before we began to descend.

Frederick in the snow outside the gondola building that is under renovation. If you click on the picture to enlarge it, you might be able to see the big horned sheep in the center of the picture.

Close-up of the sheep.

Hiking down the mountain in the snow - some of which is beginning to accumulate on the trees next to Frederick.

A beautiful wildflower that I cannot identify.

Same with this one, although I think these are the flowers of some type of berry shrub.

Today's hike:
Length - 6.82 miles
Duration - 3 hours, 10 minutes
Elevation gain - 2,350 feet (237 floors on the Fitbit)
