Ink Pots

We returned to Johnston Canyon, on the Bow River Parkway, but today we just hiked through the canyon and then continued on the trail to the Ink Pots. The Ink Pots are warm water polls where water bubbles up from deep below the Earth's surface into these shallow pools.

The Ink Pots are located in this open meadow with majestic peaks all around.

Somehow these two dedicated hikers/parents had lugged this child 4 miles up the forested ridge from the Canyon for a trip he'll remember the rest of his life.

Meet Devon and his Mom, from North Vancouver.

The warm water bubbles up from underground and circles are formed where the bubble "explodes" at the pool's muddy bottom. See the circle just to the top right of the rock on the shore of this beautiful, blue-green pool.

Another beautiful pool.

Frederick at the edge of the open meadow.

More pools with more circles on the bottom. Maybe aliens?

View north down the meadow.

Maybe Heal-all

We're pretty sure this is Buttercup. It's everywhere!

Un-identified, but no less lovely.

Heart-leaved arnica - we may have shown you this before.

Today's hike:
Length - 7.48 miles
Duration - 3 hours, 59 minutes
Elevation gain - 1,660 feet (168 floors on the Fitbit)
