Old Fort Point and Jasper Town

The Athabasca River flows through the Town of Jasper and, while Old Fort Point is little more than a hill, its position in the middle of the Athabasca Valley provides a 360-degree panorama of the Town and surrounding mountain peaks.

The Town of Jasper in the foreground and Mounts Hardisty and Kerkeslin rise up-valley.

The Athabasca River. In the center top of the picture you can see the tram-house at the top of Mt. Whistler (if you enlarge the picture!).

In the distance, through the smoke, is the snowy summit of Mount Edith Cavell to the south.

We often see helicopters trailing water buckets (enlarge the picture) heading into British Columbia.

Back in town, from the parking lot of Robinson's Grocery Store, that's Old Fort Point, the little brown hill in the center of the picture.

Today's hike:
Length - 2.95 miles (4.6 km)
Duration - 1 hour, 22 minutes
Elevation gain - 550 feet (158 meters)
