Cavell Meadows II - Without the Drama

As we did yesterday, we returned to a hiking trail that we did two weeks ago, in the smoke.

Today it was the Cavell Meadows, probably the most popular trail in Jasper and, this year, the one requiring a permit to hike. Fortunately it was another clear day. As we did yesterday, we will not dwell on the trail but just show the beautiful scenery and cute critters. We'll just say that we hiked the Cavell Meadows loop trail. At the southern end of the trail we went out to the great viewpoint where there were several families enjoying their lunch so we moved on after taking some pictures. We then hiked to an even more elevated viewpoint where we did stop for lunch before heading down the loop to the trailhead.

This is a pika. I don't know what the animal is that was in yesterday's blog, but pikas don't have long tails.

The marmots were out in force - we think this may be a mamma with her two, almost grown, offspring.

At the end of the first switchback on the trail is this lower elevation view of the toe of the glacier and the Cavell Pond with icebergs.

Same viewpoint - Angel Glacier and...

both Angel Glacier and Cavell Pond.

View down the valley from the viewpoint.

Upper viewpoint lunch spot from the left, and...

from the right.

Lunch view - Angel Glacier.

Heading down the trail through the Cavell meadows and...

the beautiful wildflowers. (Enlarge the picture!)

Another heroic picture of Frederick at the end of the first switchback - view of Cavell Pond and the toe of Angel Glacier.

Today's hike:
Length - 4.52 miles (7.57 km)
Duration - 3 hours, one minute (including lunch)
Elevation gain - 1,433 feet (435 meters)
