Maccarib Pass

We didn't actually hike to Maccarib Pass, which is 12.4 km (7.75 miles) from the trailhead on the Tonquin Valley Loop trail. Since we were only day-hiking, we climbed into the narrow canyon known as The Portal, hiked the high north side of the valley, crossed some rockslides below Peveril Peak and then descended back to the valley floor and Portal Creek where we had lunch before retracing our steps.
Entering the canyon we hiked along side of Portal Creek.

Halfway along our route we crossed Circus Creek bridge. Circus Creek merges with Portal Creek below the bridge.

Hiking above the beautiful valley known as...

The Portal.

Lunch spot along Portal Creek.

Lunch views...

On the return trip, looking up Circus Creek from the bridge.

Today's hike:
Length - 9.73 miles (15.59 km)
Duration - 5 hours, 7 minutes (including lunch)
Elevation gain - 1,693 feet (513 meters)
