Citrus at the Border

It didn't seem too smoky when we got up this morning, but when we left the campground and began our 250-mile trip to Coeur d'Alene, it felt as if we were driving through fog so thick it was necessary to drive with the car lights on. This area bills itself as the "Gateway to the Canadian Rockies" but it was difficult to see much of the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains.

Difficult driving conditions.

Hoodoos along the way.

Our favorite landmark!

The landmark water-wheel at Fort Steele.

Moyie Lake - a large resort area south of Cranbrook.

We declared our fruits and vegetables but the only thing Customs was interested in was the citrus fruit. We left behind a nice round lime and two clementines.

We have seen these border obelisks at many crossings. We're sorry to say good-bye to Canada, but the eclipse isn't going to be much of a show there. Less than a week until the big event!
