Eclipse Day - 8/21/17

The BIG DAY!

I think we already told you that we got up at 4 a.m. and were driven to Driggs, Idaho, out the west entrance to Yellowstone down the far east side of Idaho to be near the center of the path of totality.

First test picture before the first contact.

It's happening!!

(The camera was beginning to tilt because it was focused on the sun that was moving overhead.)

There, back on kilter.

Here are some other pictures from the day that were taken with my iPhone because the big camera was trained on the sun.
Terri and Randy in their matching shirts with Ted, our photography expert.

Randy in his cool t-shirt.

Setting up on the lawn next to the Driggs Middle School.

One of the class participants was also a watercolor artist. She's painting the back of the Tetons which served as our backdrop.

Waiting for the big event with our cameras covered to protect them from the heat of the sun.

Ted making final adjustments to my camera. Notice the filter attached to the camera with a rubber band.

This cool effect was a small tree next to the sidewalk whose leaves served as a pin-hole camera showing the eclipse in progress.

Looks like little quarter moons.

Using our hands as a pin-hole camera.

On the way back to Yellowstone we got caught in a traffic back-up. We had planned to drive on to the RV park at Fishing Bridge but it got too late. We got permission to stay in our Airstream on the Ranch but first, we had to wait out the herd of bison that were out admiring the Airstream.

View of the cabins at the Lamar Buffalo Ranch from the Airstream.
