Karcthner Caverns State Park

One of the reasons we moved early from Patagonia Lake to Tucson was to be sure we had good TV reception for the Super Bowl (and to do laundry - it had been 4 weeks). If you know that we lived in Rhode Island for over 35 years you will not be surprised that we were ecstatic about Sunday night's outcome. After all, Providence is closer to Foxboro than is Boston.

Also because of the "big game", we planned a day off on Monday and we didn't move until this morning. It wasn't a far drive to Karcthner Caverns, only 60 miles, so we were able to relax and enjoy the drive.

Passing landscape on I-10 east of Tucson.

At one point we passed a railroad spur that had a line of engines about 1-mile long.

Good view of Basin & Range just before we reached the turn-off for AZ #90.

There is a great deal of mesquite that covers the hills around here.

This butte is up behind the campground at Kartchner Caverns.

We spent a couple of hours at the park's Discovery Center, which is the location for the start of the Cavern tours, and learned quite a bit about Karchner Caverns. We will go online to make reservations for these very popular tours. It was late in the afternoon when we returned to the Airstream at our campsite in the mesquite trees.

The mesa pictured above is just to the left in the picture above. Since the sun was setting behind the mesa, I couldn't get a picture of it and the Airstream together.
