Where are the mountains?

Today was the 143rd running of the Preakness, the second leg of the Triple Crown. Nyquist, the winner of the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago, was the favorite to win the Preakness. But the track in Baltimore, Maryland, was a mud puddle, and those conditions favored Exaggerator, who came in second at the Derby. Exaggerator won the Preakness; Nyquist came in third.

Our thoughts today are about Don Rohr; he was a big fan of the Triple Crown races and he was very knowledgable about the sport. We miss him.

In order to watch the race (there was no chance whatsoever of getting any TV reception at the campground) we drove over to Jackson Lake Lodge. There was a television in the Blue Heron bar off the lobby.

The Blue Heron has arguably the best views of any bar in the world.

The television was turned down low when we first came in (we ordered one regular coffee and one decaf coffee), but 15 minutes before the race, Mike came over to turn up the volume. Mike had a small wager on Exaggerator.

Here's Nyquist being led to the post. I have a picture of him because we thought he would win.

You might have been able to tell from the picture out the window at the bar that clouds pretty much covered the mountains today.

I feel badly for anyone who had just one day in the park and it was today. It rained pretty steadily during the day.
