Old Friends

Of all things, we left Holbrook this morning in the rain! We haven't seen precipitation in weeks!!

Here's the storm front going by with blue sky following.

We started off driving southwest across the southern Colorado Plateau and we thought we were headed in the right direction -towards the blue sky.

As we continued southwest we began to climb into the Central Highlands and it began to snow. The sign reads that we are on the Hashknife Pony Express Route. We saw signs that we were on this route all the way to Phoenix.

The temperature began to drop until it was 33 degrees. Fortunately the roads were still warm so the snow did not stick to the surface, but the fog was pretty dense.

After crossing the Hellsgate Wilderness and a pass of almost 8,000ft., we began to descend towards the Central Deserts.

This road on the map had green dots next to it meaning it is a scenic route. Actually, we didn't need the green dots to know this.

6% grade and 3rd gear all the way down.

It was with great joy that we noticed that we were back in saguaro territory. Notice the road in the background winding its way through the Superstition Mountains.

Saguaro cactus marching up the mountainside.

Foothills of the...

Superstition Mountains.

Desert floor in bloom.

On our way into Apache Junction where we are staying at the Arizuma RV Park.
