Dirt Dam Trail

Completing the taxes and spring cleaning - two tasks one doesn't look forward to doing but there is a certain satisfaction upon completion. Frederick feels satisfied that he has completed our 2016 taxes and I feel good about having cleaned the inside of the Airstream - wiping down all the aluminum walls and ceiling and polishing the cabinets. (True confession; it's all done except for the bathroom!) This afternoon, to celebrate, we tackled one of the short trails that emanate from the state park.

It's a trail of two dams. Pictured above - the structure at the center left that looks like a road - is the Dirt Dam.

Crossing the Dirt Dam.

We continued along an abandoned paved road for 1 1/2-miles until we came to the concrete Elephant Butte Dam.

Neither dam seem to have to work very hard because the water level at both is quite a bit below the top of the dam.

Elephant Lake from the trail. I think that may be Elephant Butte sitting like an island in the middle of the lake. Maybe because it is massive and grey it is called Elephant Butte?

Today's hike:
Length - 3.04 miles
Duration - 60 minutes (I know, the same as yesterday, to the minute, really!)
Elevation gain - 130 feet (13 floors on the Fitbit)
