Crossing the Straits of Juan de Fuca

One last ferry/boat ride on this year's excellent adventure. We had a great time on Vancouver Island, but, in order to continue our venturing forth, we had to leave Canada, cross the Straits of Juan de Fuca, and we have now arrived in Port Angeles, Washington. It seems as if we haven't been in the U.S. since we crossed into Canada the end of May. Of course we know that Alaska is a state, but somehow it just didn't seem like being in the U.S. when we were there. That's probably not a very good thing to say - at any rate, we're now back in the lower forty-eight.

Look how big that motorhome appears!

These cute little homes are actually houseboats - they are floating on the water. When we went of the Victoria City tour on Saturday, the route took us past these famous little houses.

The entrance to the busy Victoria Horseshoe Harbor.

A crew out for a morning row.

Looking across the straits to Port Angeles, the Olympic Mountains and a bank of fog at the base of the mountains.

There are no pictures of our entry into Port Angeles because, about two thirds of the way across the straits, we were enveloped in fog. Every thirty seconds the fog horn sounded and it was all very mysterious.

  1. It didn't feel like you were in the US when you were in Alaska, either.
