Hitch jack

We have been hitched (trailer attached to tow vehicle) for the past week, since our hitch jack decided that it had done as much as it was going to do and quit holding up the front of the Airstream when we parked. The only thing we could do was leave it hitched to the car.  We learned that getting a new hitch jack in the wilds of Alaska, especially on a week-end when Alaskans go out to play, was going to be a challenge. When we arrived in Homer on Tuesday we contacted the local Napa store who agreed to order a new one and have it shipped in from Anchorage. It came in this morning.

Our new hitch - a Husky Brute!

On an Airstream Caravan, all you have to do is stand outside, next to your trailer holding a tool, and you draw a crowd. Here's Tom, inserting the new hitch while Randy, in the red vest, looks on.

A beautiful new hitch jack capable of lifting 4500 lbs.

Homer is the Halibut capital of the world. The anglers on our Caravan went out today and caught our dinner and we all enjoyed a fish fry tonight.
