Almost Evelyn's

Acadia National Park is so beautiful and so Maine. Our campground is about 35 minutes from the main Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island. We began our visit at the Visitor's Center where I was able to get my National Park Passport stamped and we picked up a park map.

The Visitor Center also had this neat diorama of the Park.

Our first stop was the top of Cadillac Mountain. The Park states that it is the highest mountain on the Atlantic coast.  Of course Mt. Washington and Mt. Katahdin, and a number of others, are taller, but I guess this is right on the coast.

As you can see, the views from the top are spectacular.

This is looking east, down on Bar Harbor. We took the little hike around the permitter of the top.

After visiting the top of Cadillac Mountain, we took the 27 mile, one-way, park loop drive. Some of the magnificent shoreline scenery.

This is Thunder Hole.  The way the tide comes in it is supposed to make thunderous noise, but I have yet to hear anything but a gurgle.

At Otter Point we found another dike. (see yesterday's blog)

There was also this interesting white rock.

The waves crashing in at Otter Point.

There are lots of wildflowers blooming right now.  I liked these redish-orange flowers.

Leaving the park, we came back through Ellsworth and stopped at a supermarket to get some things.  We're going into Canada tomorrow and you just never know what you are going to be able to get there.

We have passed this viewpoint a number of times; it is located about 4 miles down the road from us. This afternoon we stopped and took a picture.  All of the mountains that you can see are on Mount Desert Island.

We've been talking about lobster ever since we arrived in Maine.  Tonight was our last chance.  We stopped in the office to ask about the best place and were referred to Tracey's, which just happens to be about 500 feet up the road from the office.

Our dinner?

Tracy's reminded me of Evelyn's in Tiverton, RI.  Here they cook the lobsters in the outdoor pots.  There was a fire going and the pots were steaming. We each had a lobster roll, a mug of clam chowder and coleslaw.

  1. Hope you saved some lobsta roll, chowda, and slaw for the rest of us. What could be a better meal?
