Good-bye Alaska, Hello Smithers

Blog for September 9 & 10, 2016

We left Hyder, Alaska, in the rain, which is fitting since so much of our Alaskan trip has been in the rain. We were talking with someone on the Caravan who has lived in Alaska and they said that this has been an unusually rainy summer. All the rivers and lakes are full to overflowing, and there is a fair amount of flooding.

We apologize for the raindrops on the pictures and the occasional windshield wiper.

Bear River Canyon walls.

Fast moving Bear River.

Continuing back along #37A - eastbound - on a rainy road through the steep mountainsides of Bear River Canyon.

We passed another small glacier and...

many waterfalls.

Bear Glacier and Falls.

Toe of Bear Glacier and the pond at the base.

More waterfalls off the steep mountainsides.

A small hanging glacier and outlet stream.

One-lane bridge with a plank surface over the Nass River. Back on the Cassiar Highway.

Nass River through rain spattered windshield.

We arrived in Smithers, BC, yesterday afternoon and today most of the Caravan spent the day getting ready for our last move as a Caravan and our last stop. Tomorrow we leave for Prince George.

We did laundry today and published five blogs. Phew!
