Elk Falls Trail

Blog for September 20, 2016

We are in an amazing area with spectacular scenery right at our doorstep!  Adjacent to Campbell River is Elk Falls Provincial Park so we hiked along the Campbell River up to the Falls.

Trail along the Campbell River.
.
The salmon are spawning in the Campbell River so the bears are out in force - mothers teaching their cubs how to fish. Here's mom...

leading her cubs by the river.

The cubs were evidently successful in securing a fish.

The head of the falls.

Elk Falls from the viewing platform.

New suspension bridge over the falls.

A side trail took us to another view on the falls.

Crossing the suspension bridge.

Frederick managed to take this picture of the falls over the top of the security fence on the bridge.

Found art in a rain forest.

To make the trail a loop, we crossed the Campbell River downstream from the falls.

Looking upstream from the fixed bridge and...

looking downstream.

Today's hike:
Length - 6.29 miles
Duration - 3 hours, 13 minutes
Elevation gain - 870 feet (88 floors on the Fitbit)

  1. Did you use your telephoto lens for the bear pictures? I bet your bear spray is close at hand after that encounter.
