Escambia River

It was a day of cleaning, shopping and organizing for the months ahead. Frederick sanitized the plumbing system which involves bleach and filling tanks, opening taps, draining tanks and only has to be done once a year. Tomorrow we continue on the road with the Airstream as we head towards Texas.

We drove back to Century, Florida, which is right on the Alabama border, to shop at the closest supermarket. The parking lot of the supermarket is right at the state-line. On the way back, about 1 mile from the campground, we were held up by a passing train. I think it has been years since I have had to wait at a railroad crossing - hence the picture.

Late this afternoon we consulted with the campground hosts about a trail to the river. We had no idea we were only about 300 yards from the Escambia River. We did the loop from the campground entrance, along the river, and back to the exit road to the campground three times trying to log our 10,000 steps for the day.

We found a little contemplation garden at the back of the campground, right along the river. There we found this blooming tree.

I don't know what the name of the plant is, but it has some very pretty flowers.

  1. We live 2 blocks from the Burlington Northern train tracks and wait at railroad crossings multiple times a day as passenger and freight trains make their way across the country. It's been part of our lives for 47 years so it struck me as so unusual that you haven't had to wait for a train in years! Glad to know you're back on the road. Judy S.
