Hamburger seed

We did it! At 11 a.m. we started the Wilderness Trail and hiked to site #6 where there is  a trail that goes to the beach. We then hiked back to the car along the shore. My phone says we went 14.19 miles and 29,868 steps (each).

Look how fresh and eager this man looks at the beginning of the trail.

Between mile 3 and 4 there were some interesting marshes and vegetation.

Heading across the dunes to reach the shore.

I read somewhere that the dunes here are some of the highest along the Gulf.

These wonderful people are John and Penny Ehrman. They live nearby and are volunteers who were patrolling the beach picking up trash. They are involved with other volunteer activities, such as Turtle Patrol, when the hatchlings are trying to find their way to the water. It was wonderful talking with them; they had some suggestions for camping sites in Texas and Louisiana.

After we talked with John and Penny they went on their way north to pick up more trash. But on their way back south they stopped to talk with us again. They offered us a Hamburger seed that they had found on the beach. John thinks they are washed up from Central America - Belize?

We ate our lunch under the shade of these palm trees.

Looking back along the beach just before we turned inland again, to where the car is parked.

The dunes at the beach access from the parking lot.
