Roofs

A rainy travel day. On such a drive it is easy to find something to notice and comment on. You might say that the landscape we are traveling through could be any where, but we feel that there is a unique character to each region we are fortunate to visit.

For instance, a few days ago, at the Museum of Gaspesie, in Gaspe, we read that, in the past, the economy of the Gaspe was based mostly on fishing and timber. The government recognized that this dependence on two sources of revenue could not be sustained and encouraged diversification into fishing, the forest, agriculture, tourism and wind energy. We have certainly seen the impact of wind energy. All along Gaspe's northwestern coast there are wind turbines; sometimes three or four, sometimes twenty of more.

Every little village seems to have their own source of energy and since we have yet to experience a calm day by the coast, I would say it is pretty dependable.

Some of the tourist-centered villages have excellent facilities for pleasure crafts.

I don't believe this is a functioning lighthouse. This building is a tourist information center in Matane.

The rest of the blog highlights one of the more attractive features of the countryside and enlivened a rainy day of travel. What we chose today are the vibrantly colored roofs that we have enjoyed seeing as we travel in Quebec. Frederick took these pictures through the car window.

Red is a very popular color. This roof happens to be on a store, but there are plenty of houses that have opted for this bright, candied-apple red color.

Blue; not just the roof, but the house as well.

Same with this green one.

Here is a pretty combination of yellow house and rusty-red roof.

A very bright green.

Red roofs.

Pale blue roof and house trim.

Orange barn roof.

Bright blue commercial building and we have seen houses this color, too.

Your basic brown with white trim.

A kind of melon red.

Blueish-green by the water. If the sun was shining, the water would probably look the same color.

Peacock -blue; a restaurant by the sea.

Another nice solid barn-red with white trim.

We thought Scot would enjoy seeing this stone house. This type of sone house isn't in every village, but we have seen quite a few of them.

  1. Have not heard too much of late about your seafood dinners. There is probably some variety and you have picked your favorites. We are so jealous of the riches on your plates. Enjoy! Bon apetito!
