Watch for water

Today was a travel day. We left Terlingua and drove through most of Big Bend National Park, back towards Marathon, Texas, where we spent a night just over a week ago.

This time we didn't stay in Marathon but turned left and traveled north to Fort Stockton, about 150 miles from Terlingua, on State Route 385. Most of the way from Marathon it looked like this.

Every mile or so there would be a sign that read - Watch for Water on Road.

That sign was often followed by one that said simply - DIP. Then, 500 feet down the road there would be a depression and we would "dip".

At the base of the dip there would be a flood gauge. I guess all these signs mean that when they get water here, maybe during the monsoon season of late summer/early fall, it takes a while for the water to be absorbed into the soil and it collects on the road.

At Fort Stockton we connected with Interstate #10, the road we came into Texas on a month ago. Out here the posted speed limit is 80 mph. We were only on #10 three miles, we are staying the night in an RV park on the outskirts of town, but even in that short distance we had plenty to read on the roadside signs.

This one is my favorite.

After we parked (we didn't un-hitch since we are only staying the night), we went for a walk on the Six Shooter Trail. The trail circles the RV park and is about 2 miles long.

Frederick trying out the six shooter mailbox.

Along the trail we came upon another pet memorial garden.
