It was threatening rain all day, and just before 3 pm, when we were told our Airstream was ready to be hitched up, little sprinkles were starting to fall. In record time, Frederick and I hitched-up and pulled out of Can-Am with a new awning arm and two new leveling jacks (plus a few other fixed-up items).
We were on Canadian #401, rolling past London, when the skies opened. We slowed to 35 and nobody was passing. We put on our flashers and noticed that almost everybody else had theirs on, too. I thought, "How long can this last?" Usually, when I experienced heavy rains like this before, it only lasted for about 3 or 4 minutes. This went on for over 15 minutes, then there was a lessening for about 5 minutes, then the heavy rain came once again. We were passing a rest stop (in Canada they are called "On Route"), so we decided to go in and wait out the rain.
Canadian rest stop - On Route.
We crossed the border at Buffalo (there was only one car ahead of us, not much of a wait, but, he did want to see the inside of the Airstream) at about 5:30 pm and moved on to the New York Thruway, I-90. Everything was going great for about twenty miles when it began to rain. This time the heavy downpour only lasted a few minutes and then just steady rain. The sun was beginning to set so we were treated to a rainbow as we headed east.
First rest stop outside of Buffalo. There had been some rain and more was to come.
There were quite a few trucks in the parking lot, but we found a spot.
These pictures don't show it too clearly but, this picture and the one below show a double rainbow.
After these pictures, we just enjoyed the developing rainbow. For quite a while there was a complete arc across the sky.
Beautiful rainbow.
