Johnston Canyon & Inkpots

Johnston Canyon is purported to be the most popular destination in the Canadian Rockies (what about Lake Louise?) and the busiest hiking trail in the Banff area. If you don't like crowds, we don't, at least while we're hiking, then the first 1/2 mile, to the Lower Falls, is not the place to be. But because the rest of the Canyon and the hike to the Inkpots is so beautiful, we'll put up with the crowds.

We have hiked this trail many times and this is the fullest we have seen Johnston Creek. This is one of the many falls but not the main two.

This is the Upper Falls an it is usually confined to the main channel on the left.

This is from the brink of the Upper Falls with the main channel on the left. All the other flow, in the center and the right, is due to the high water level.

Lunch spot at...

the Inkpots.

On the way back through the Canyon the sun came out.

The Lower Falls.

Today's hike:
Length - 8.13 miles
Duration - 4 hours, 15 minutes (including lunch)
Elevation gain - 1,645 feet
