We have now hiked the Hurricane Ridge Area, and Lake Crescent; today it was the Sol Duc Area, a 12 miles drive into the interior off Highway #101. There are hot springs and a resort at the end of the 12 miles, and the Sol Duc River is one of the few places where salmon run in every season.
A rain storm went through the area last night and some of it lingered today in the Rain Forest.
We had hiked almost 3 miles when the trail crossed this stream on a huge log bridge. At first we thought this charming little falls was Sol Duc Falls.
We went another quarter mile and came upon this beautiful ribbon falls.
Same falls from the trail - was this Sol Duc Falls?
Here's Sol Duc Falls. you can drive to a parking area and walk in a mile to view the Falls.
A flume below the falls. There's a bridge over this flume and that's where we are standing to take this picture.
Lunch Spot
Lunch view and...
another lunch view looking down the flume from the falls on the right.
The hike was a loop - we began at the resort, hiked the west side of the river, crossed the river at the falls and returned to the resort on the east side of the river.
The sun came out for about 5 minutes just as we were passing a small canyon with the river rushing through it.
Today' hike:
Length - 6.66 miles
Duration - 3 hours, 39 minutes
Elevation gain - 520 feet
