Last night it got down to 35 degrees so we decided - that's it, we're heading south to look for warmer weather. I'm not complaining, I know most of you have been living through record breaking cold weather. Never-the-less, we moved 200 miles south, to South San Padre Island, close to Brownsville, about as far south in Texas as you can go. Unfortunately, the cold weather has followed us - right now, at 9 pm, it's 45 degrees.
Last night, just before sunset when we were out walking, we came upon some other inhabitants of Goose Island, five deer.
In another part of the park were some more deer. These are very elegant looking, long necks and legs. Not that you can see that in these iPhone photos.
Forty miles south of the park we drove around Corpus Christie.
Corpus Christie sits on the west side of a deep bay and appears to be a large shipping and industrial area.
Lots of refineries in Corpus Christie and in the surrounding countryside.
There was only one rest area on our way south and we stopped. Texas has very efficient rest areas. You exit on the left and both directions share the same facilities.
This nice mural was at the entrance to the Women's Restroom.
Send some of the warmth this way so that we can find the ground by summer! Enjoy the area, are you venturing over the border?
