Goose Island

We have moved on from San Antonio and are now camped at Goose Island State Park about 10 miles north of Rockport, TX and 40 miles from Corpus Christie, right on the Gulf. It is advertised as "an angler's paradise and a bird watcher's dream". Since we are neither "birders" nor anglers, we are here to relax and get to know Texas better.

As we were leaving Hidden Valley RV Park in San Antonio we notice this fruit-laden tree. Paul, these are tangerines. Terri, the campground owner said that this year the fruit is not very sweet. She attributed that to a lack of rain.

Along the fence on the campground road were these prickly-pear cactus.

And this succulent looks like it is hatching an Easter egg.

An attempt to positively reward adherence to the speed limit in the park. Actually, the road was so bumpy that you did not want to go over 10 mph.

For the drive from San Antonio the landscape was mostly ranches with grazing cattle.

A Texas ranch house.

A typical drive from the road into the ranch.

We did not take the interstate and there is very little traffic on the Texas state highways.

Our campsite at Goose Island State Park - about twenty feet from Aransas Bay.

This morning we walked over to the Park headquarters to officially check-in. We had arrived after 5 pm and there was no one in the office. This is a flotilla of pelicans.

Adjacent to the State Park is a sort of canal with homes right on the water. This is a heron.

When we checked out the church we noticed that our brother-in -law, Ralph, has been leading a double life.

This evening as we walked the shore-line, trying to reach our 10,000 steps (we did), we were able to view a sun-set, and...

the moon with Venus right below. In the opposite sky, but on the same plane, is Jupiter.
