Up and Over the Big Beehive

On June 27th we hiked up the trail to Lake Agnes and turned right to climb to the top of Little Beehive. Today we kept going around Lake Agnes to the far end and climbed a steep series of switchbacks to the Beehive summit ridge. We continued east along the rocky ridge to the edge of a rocky promontory.
Beginning the hike to Lake Agnes by passing Lake Louise and our traditional picture.

Our lunch spot is on the edge of the rocky promontory at the far eastern point of Big Beehive. You can't really tell for this lunch spot picture, but there is nothing in front of Frederick but DOWN.

That's our lunch view, a somewhat obscured by trees view of Lake Louise 1,700 feet below and the Bow Valley in the distance. Of course you've enlarged the picture and can see the canoes on the lake. During lunch we counted 27 canoes.

After lunch we took some pictures - looking north you can see the trail to the Little Beehive on the other side of Lake Agnes.

On the other side of Big Beehive ridge from Lake Louise is beautiful Lake Agnes. That's the trail along the water's edge.

A closer view of the Lake and the trail.

Mountain peaks and cirque above Lake Agnes.

After lunch we headed back west along the Big Beehive ridge with a view of Mount Lefroy across from the plain of the Six Glaciers teahouse.

We decided to return to Lake Louise by crossing over the summit ridge of Big Beehive and hiking down a steep trail on the south side. This is our last look back at Lake Agnes, the teahouse is just beyond the ridge on the right side.
Descending down to the Plain of the Six Glaciers, we came to an intersection with the Plain of the Six Glacier trail and turned left towards Lake Louise, the same trail we hiked on the 4th of July.

We again passed the rock climbing wall and stopped to take pictures of the climbers.

If you've enlarged the picture you can fine Waldo in the red shirt about in the center of the picture.

Today's hike:
Length - 8.32 miles (13.80K)
Duration - 4 hours, 30 minutes (including lunch)
Elevation gain - 1,845 feet (549 meters)
