Western Canada, Banff specifically, is experiencing a "heat wave"; it has reached 90 degrees for the past three days. It is extremely uncomfortable to hike in the heat which is why we were on the trail yesterday by 10 a.m. Today, seeking a "recovery" day from yesterday's strenuous hike we decided to once again park the car downtown, hike up, past the campground to the hoodoos, and then hike downhill to town, all by noon. We didn't quite make it by noon, we kept meeting people to talk with, but we were in the grocery store by 1 p.m. getting provisions to make a couple batches of soup.
Since this is the height of the wildflower season, I took pictures of a sampling of what we saw along the trail this morning.
Wood Lily
Northern Bedstraw
Alpine Clover
Meadow Death-camas
Canada Goldenrod
Bluebell Bellflower
Mountain Death-camas
Common Gaillardia; Brown-eyed Susan
Jacob's Ladder
Shrubby Cinquefoil (one of the most common flower we see along any trail)
Today's hike:
Length - 6.02 miles
Duration - 2 hours, 39 minutes
Elevation gain - 713 feet
