Settling Into Yellowstone

Mid-day we drove the sixty miles from Colter Village in the Grand Teton National Park to the Fishing Bridge RV Park in Yellowstone National Park. We added 16 additional miles by missing the right turn at West Thumb and had to drive half way to Old Faithful before we could fine a place to turn around. Now we're here at Fishing Bridge, the only RV park with full hook-ups in Yellowstone; we'll be here for 10 days.

There's a kind of no-mans-land between the Tetons and Yellowstone, 6 miles along the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway. From the Parkway you can see the Red Mountains in Yellowstone.

Evidently there had been a forest fire along the parkway within the past year. We don't remember seeing a burn when we came through here last year.

This is a dual message picture. First, notice the humungous snow piles along the side of the road. Second, notice the large "A" and ROLL TIDE ROLL on the back of this RV that we followed most of the way from the Tetons to Yellowstone. We thought of Rose and Ralph the whole way - Alabama's Crimson Tide!

This southern part of Yellowstone is at a higher elevation than the Tetons, with lots more snow.

On our short drive part way to Old Faithful we crossed the Continental Divide. Almost 8,000feet.

Back on the right road we drove along Yellowstone Lake.

Here, too, there was evidence of a recent forest fire.
