Prairie Dog Ballet on the Sundance Trail

Our original plan for the day included going for a moderate hike this morning, then heading over to the Apple Store before concluding our business by stopping at Costco. Costco and the Apple Store are close to each other, about 20 miles north on I-25. We got in the hike okay, drove to the Apple Store where we were Shanghaied by the allures of Apple technology. We'll go to Costco tomorrow.

The beginning part of the Sundance Trail took us by an large Prairie Dog town.

As we walked through the town there were lots of sentinels "barking" a warning of our passage.

One little one got so excited that it was jumping in the air and pirouetting on its hind legs.

At the other end of the trail, and the other end of the scale of excitement, this rattler refused to move off the trail so we had to walk around it through the bushes. We were happy to oblige it!

We have been having some frustration with our Fitbit these past few weeks; it refuses to hold a charge for more than a few hours, especially in the GPS mode, which we use all the time for our hiking.  A week ago Sunday, when we went to the Apple Store in ABQ to facilitate uploading our pictures to the Cloud, not only did we get a new iPhone 7, but we spent some time ogling the Apple Watch. The last straw was yesterday, at the end of our hike, when I looked down at a blank face on the Fitbit. We decided to go to the Apple Store, and while we used the store's wi-fi connection to upload more pictures, we also sprang for an Apple Series 2 watch that has a GPS function.

Meet Josh. We were just sitting there, Frederick monitoring the upload and me playing with the new watch, when Josh invited us to join his class on advanced iPhone and iPad devices. We did join him and were enthralled for the next two hours. This man knows more about Apple devices and tips & tricks to using them than Tim Cooke (I'm guessing!) We had a great afternoon; time just flew by. We will be going to Costco tomorrow. Thanks, Josh!

Today's hike:
Length - 3.48 miles
Duration -1 hour, 37 minutes
Elevation gain - 340 feet

  1. I'm looking at the Apple Watch myself now. Also can't wait to see what you learned in class, can any of it be used for the blog?

  2. If you had an Apple Watch that would be great, then we could continue to share activity. Then will have to convince Uncle Ralph , Mike and Jackie. Not having our "community" was one of my hesitations in moving from the Fitbit.
