"I don't think we are in Kansas anymore"

Well, that took care of Kansas. We enjoyed seeing Monument Rocks and Scott Lake State Park had great wifi, but we had hiked around most of the lake and it was time to go - on to Nebraska.

One last look at the open road in Kansas.

Maybe in time they'll plant some trees for shade.

Nebraska was doing 14 miles of road resurfacing starting at the state line. We had to wait 15 minutes before we could proceed into Nebraska. There was this nice sign that told us we were leaving Kansas and to "Come Again."

The friendly traffic controller.

Welcome sign for Nebraska.

Here's Nebraska - contrast this picture with the first one. While still the prairie, it is a bit more hilly.

The farms seem to be larger.

A busy time of year for the farmers of Nebraska.

First time we have seen a sign like this. Frederick also noticed that this is the first day in almost three months that we have not seen prickly pear.

Lake McConaughey is the largest lake in Nebraska. It is created by the Kingsley Dam which is 3.5 miles long and 162 feet high.  The road takes you right across the top of the dam. That is Lake McConaughey to the left...

and Lake Ogallala to the right.

At this time of the year the only campground that is open is on Lake Ogallala. I'm glad because this campground seems much more pleasant. Here is our site, right on Lake Ogallala.

This is our view out the windows at the dinette.

  1. So did you make it home before the rain last night? What's the weather like there this time of year? It looks chilly still. I'm wondering if this is why no campground are open or if they just have the typical Memorial through Labor Day schedule.
